Beaches Reorts for a 1 year old?

Question:

We are considering a fall trip to a Beaches Resort (either Turks and Caicos or Negril since they are the only 2 that have diving). We have been to both locations in the past (Sandals Negril and Club Med Turks) so we have a good feeling about what each beach has to offer. What we don’t really know is what Beaches will be like for a 1 year old – she will be too young to participate in any organized activity. Has anyone been to a Beaches (or any other all inclusive resort with diving for that matter) that can give us input on taking our child?   Specifically we are looking for your impression of their facilities for infants. Any recommendations, cautions, comments on specific resorts or traveling to the caribbean with a 1 year old? Thanks,

Hi, We recently went to Beaches Turks and Caicos with our 2 year old.   We decided on this resort because it was only 15 minutes from the airport as opposed to 2 hours for the Beaches Negril resort, which when you are traveling with an infant is an eternity.  Also, diving seems to be better at Turks (We dove at Sandals Negril, but not at Turks)…after talking with some of the other divers, it was common to see schools of fish, dolphins and other sea life.   They have two dive boats at Turks not sure about Beaches Negril. As for your child….please do not leave her with the nannies, we saw this one nanny with three little children under the age of 3 in her care….she walked/carried them into the pool (cold water), sat them down and they screamed…she then proceeded to get them wet even further even though the children protested.   She then sat them in a stroller and took them for a walk.   The nursery was full of children, most of them crying.   This may be an unfair picture of the nannies and the daycare…I was pregnant and very hormonal at the time…but it left an impression.   Maybe you and your husband can take turns diving or find a nice couple at the resort with similar interests and take turns babysitting each others kids.   There is not much activity a one year old can participate in yet, but the water is beautiful and the pool for kids is great. Bring toys,  a floaty ring and swim diapers since they are VERY expensive if you buy them at the resort. You can’t go wrong at either resort.   Most everything is imported from the States, even the milk.   We stayed in the French section at Turks and it was great ( not too close to the beach, but our daughter was afraid of the moving water anyway), the pools and restaurants are really close to the rooms so you don’t have to walk very far.   We had a ground floor room which allowed our daughter to be able to play on the grass in front of our room.   Also, request a refrigerator in your room its great for keeping milk and other drinks cold, otherwise you have to go and get fresh milk for you child’s bottle at the strangest times of the day or night.   Restaurants will give a litre carton (quart for the non metric people) to take with you.   If you any questions please feel free to email me .   Good luck and have fun.
