Carribean First Timers looking for "walk out" villa

Question:

Wife and I are looking for a small but clean air conditioned place (only need 1 bedroom) where we can walk right out to the beach from the bedroom and when we are tired of the salt water we can jump into the pool!  We have never vacationed in the Carribean before, so any suggestions would be great. A place that has access to good snorkling and maybe a catamaran for sailing would be perfect.  Good local resteraunts (so she won’t have to cook) are also a factor. Thanks!

Response:

We are so new that we can’t even spell carribean ;)  Sorry for the spelling error…CARIBBEAN

What sort of price range? Ambergris Caye <http://www.ambergriscaye.com/><http://www.goambergriscaye.com/> has plenty of places like that, but so do about a hundred less expensive beaches and tourist spots around the Caribbean. San Pedro is a good place to start for beginners, as it has just about everything you could want in a very small area. If you go, say hello to my friends that own the <http://www.bluedive.com/winnie.html> and take a day trip, it is worth it. JJ

Thanks for the reply! Due to a tight schedule we are only looking to stay from June 4-8.  So 5 days and 4 nights at maybe $300-$400 per night depending on accomodations. Is there anything that you would recommend that is closer to the states (currently live in Southeast USA) to minimize the time spent traveling since we have such a tight schedule? Cheers!

It doesn’t meet all of your requirements (no pool), but you can get a room where you can walk out your bedroom and onto the beach at: http://www.rendezvousbay.com/index.php?subpageID=3 You would want a villa room, which off-season is $175 a night. Anguilla has some of the best beaches around. Many flights directly to St. Martin, then you do have to get over to Anguilla either by WinAir or a ferry. The advantage of the ferry is its Anguilla end is within walking distance of this hotel (I think). If you plan on renting a car, then you might as well fly WinAir (only a 10-15 minute flight) and drive the few miles from the airport. Don <www.donwiss.com> (e-mail link at home page bottom).

Belize is close to the States and is about 1,000 miles from both Miami and Houston. One and a half hours flying time to Belize City and then a Cessna Caravan over the barrier reef islands to San Pedro, another 30 minutes, it is a beautiful flight.  $300/ night will get you a two bedroom super condo in one of the top resorts like Banyan Bay, while $80/night will get you somewhere small, cozy and friendly without a pool like the Seven Seas. Belize is the only country in the Americas where English is the official language, Ambergris Caye is part of the second largest barrier reef in the world and Belize tends to have better weather (and less risk of storms) than the windward and leeward islands, plus it is over 1,000 miles closer. I would otherwise have recommended Cuba, but your government does not allow you to go, or the Caymans, but they are still recovering from the hurricane damage. Maybe if you can skip the Carib islands, just nip over to the Bahamas. JJ

I don’t know where in the SE US you mean, but if you can get to Houston, there are 2 flights a day to Belize City.  It doesn’t take any longer to get to Belize than anywhere else in the Caribbean and maybe even less time. $3-400 a night, will get you quite the accommodations on Ambergris Caye. Check this out: http://www.victoria-house.com/ http://www.victoria-house.com/casa_azul.html  Take a look at the Tower Suite with the main floor living area included.  Casa Azul has it’s own pool but you still have access to the larger pool on the main property and all the other amenities.  This is a fabulous place. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Cheers! >> Wife and I are looking for a small but clean air conditioned place (only >> need 1 bedroom) where we can walk right out to the beach from the bedroom >> and when we are tired of the salt water we can jump into the pool!  We >> have >> never vacationed in the Carribean before, so any suggestions would be >> great. >> A place that has access to good snorkling and maybe a catamaran for >> sailing >> would be perfect.  Good local resteraunts (so she won’t have to cook) are >> also a factor. >> Thanks! > What sort of price range?
